History

Venables Machine Works Ltd. was founded in the early 1930s as a custom machining and fabricating shop. The company has since grown to meet the needs of a changing industrial market. While job work has been its mainstay in the past, Venables has adapted to a changing industry by expanding services to include large-scale more complex manufacturing.

In 1997, Venables upgraded its job and material management system to utilize a completely software driven approach, a shop control system for complete up-to the-minute information on work center loading, work order scheduling, time auditing, invoicing, shipping, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger.

In 2002, the company doubled in size. Expansion highlights include the following:

  • Sophisticated network system upgrades to track detailed, up-to-the-minute information about work-centre loading, work-order scheduling, time auditing, invoicing, shipping, and accounting.
  • Sidewalls increased to 40’ to accommodate large projects.
  • A 30’ x 30’ overhead door built to facilitate shipping, handling, and receiving large work pieces.
  • Expanded crane and forklift capacities to assist with large-scale maneuvering.
  • Additional highly trained and experienced trades personnel.

In 2003, Venables opened a sales office in Edmonton to serve Alberta’s oil, gas and energy industries.
